Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit

 

Dr. Yushu Liang is a scholar of vernacular architecture in Inner Mongolia studies, especially around the Alxa Plateau.

She has long been concerned with settlements and housing in cross-cultural areas, especially the local architecture, which is interwoven with nomadic and farming cultures. Using a multidisciplinary perspective, such as rural sociology and architectural anthropology, she focuses on the urbanism of nomadic society and its architecture and also on rural construction, heritage preservation, and renewal.

She is now an assistant professor at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at Nanjing University in China and serves as the president of the Centre of Rural Revitalization Praxis, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Nanjing University.

Yushu visits the MIASU January-December, 2025.
