The Historical Documentation and Study of the Pema Lingpa Tradition is a project to study the religious and cultural traditions which ensued from the Bhutanese religious master Pema Linga (1450-1521). As the most eminent spiritual figure born in the region which constitutes modern Bhutan, Pema Lingpa is today celebrated as a cultural hero and spiritual father of the country. He was a religious visionary, an artist, a terton or discoverer and prominent public figure. His teachings, works of art, religious traditions, spiritual and family lines today permeate all facets of Bhutanese state and society.

Pema Lingpa is the quintessential Bhutanese master. He is the only one who embodies the country of Bhutan so totally.
