The resources on this page have been designed by the artists Rachel Wooller and Kyle Kirkpatrick, the amateur archaeologist, Alan Hunter, and the amateur historian Bruce Huett; with the support of Elsa Lee, a research associate for the Pathways Project. They have been designed for use by Key Stage 2 teachers and have links to the National Curriculum to show how they might fit into teaching programmes. The resources are based on the work that the Pathways Project did with primary schools in East Anglia. We hope that you find them useful and we would be delighted to hear about how you have used them and if you have any suggestions for improving them or enhancing them. Resource 1 - A teaching pack designed by Rachel Wooller based on her engagement with the Pathways Project aimed at Year 5 and 6 in English Primary Schools addressing the curriculum's recommendation for 'Shelter Building'. This resource uses the scenario of a climate change flood to set up the activities for building shelters from found materials.
Resource 2 - A teaching pack with worksheets (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6) and curriculum links designed by Kyle Kirkpatrick based on his engagement with the Pathways Project aimed at Year 2 to 6 in English Primary Schools addressing the curriculum's recommendation for Geography and History and understanding localities. This resource uses the scenario of an archaeological dig to set up an investigation into time and place.
Resource 3 - A teaching pack designed by Alan Hunter based on his engagement with the Pathways Project aimed at Year 2 to 6 in English Primary Schools addressing the curriculum's recommendation for Geography and History and understanding localities. This resource gives detailed instructions for carrying out a test pit dig on the school grounds. Suggested activities for literacy and numeracy are also included.
Resource 4 (link to follow) - A teaching pack designed by Bruce Huett based on his engagement with the Pilot Study for the Pathways Project (see Research in the Community) aimed at Year 2 to 6 in English Primary Schools addressing the curriculum's recommendation for community engagement and citizenship education but with broadly applicable activities that are relevant for science and English, amongst others.
Please note: these packs have been designed by individuals with different approaches to teaching and learning and the structure of the packs reflects this. We hope that the different styles will appeal to different teachers' approaches to using prepared resources.
