Healthy Waterways - this project (also funded by the AHRC through its follow-on funding programme) follows on from the Pathways Project and uses the findings emerging from that project about engaging communities and connection to place to facilitate an ongoing project in South Africa called the Aller River Pilot Project. The aim of this project is to empower local communities to clean up a stretch of the Aller River that runs south of Durban in Kwazulu Natal. Working with young people living in local communities, the project aims to encourage and support existing networks and cultural engagements with local waterways to regenerate this short stretch of river, with a view towards cleaning up other rivers across the region.
