Hedwig A. Waters is a sociocultural anthropologist whose work has focused on the nexus of political economy with Mongolian concepts of gender, morality, governance and land. She is currently a Horizon Europe ERA Postdoctoral Fellow at Palacký University, Czech Republic, where she is carrying out research on the economic dynamics of medicinal plant raw material sourcing for inter/national traditional medicinal markets. Based on her PhD research (UCL 2019), she has recently finished her first monograph titled Moral Economic Transitions in the Mongolian Borderlands: A proportional share (UCL Press, 2023), which focuses on the interrelation of consumer debt and the illegal wildlife trade in Mongolia’s borderlands and the moral narratives rural Mongolians use to make sense of these emergent phenomenons.
