(2021 Bio:) Andrew Laurie was born in Cambridge, UK, spent his childhood birdwatching, and studied biology at University of Cambridge, with doctoral research on the Greater One-horned Rhinoceros in Nepal and India. After a seven year research fellowship studying Marine Iguanas in the Galapagos he went on to work on conservation planning, policy development for biodiversity, and training, mainly in Mongolia, China, Tanzania and Sri Lanka. Now resident in Cambridge, he is currently advising (remotely, due to COVID travel restrictions) on a snow leopard conservation project in Afghanistan, funded by the Global Environment Facility. He is concerned about the rapid loss of wild species and their habitats around the world, and keen to help in establishing better behaviour patterns in humans, through both governmental policy and its implementation, and actions taken by the general public and non-governmental organizations to protect the natural environment on which we all depend.
