Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit

 

Enkhbat Sainbayar, an interdisciplinary researcher from Mongolia, holds a wealth of knowledge and expertise across a range of disciplines. Specialising in Geographical Information Systems, with an MSc degree in Remote Sensing (National University of Mongolia, 2011), Enkhbat's interests span diverse subjects, including pastoralism, nomadism, dzud prediction modelling, geography, and the livestock industry. Enkhbat has extensive experience working on research and development projects in the food and livestock sectors and has published on the topics of COVID-19 resilience in Mongolian pastoralist communities, re-imagining development for mobile and marginalized peoples in Mongolia, animal husbandry development strategies, and Mongolian food supply and food security. Enkhbat worked as an ICT Integration consultant on the World Bank’s Livestock Commercialization Project, served as the official representative of the Sommet de L’Elevage in Mongolia, the world's largest sustainable livestock show, and has contributed to research projects implemented by leading organizations such as The University of Oxford, The Biodiversity Consultancy, and the Food Agriculture Organization. In May 2023, he began working on the ESRC-funded research project, ‘Trading Mongolia’s Sovereign Meat’ as fieldwork assistant before being invited to join the project team full time as a Research Assistant. Now based in MIASU, University of Cambridge, his research will focus on livestock commercialisation, with a particular emphasis on intensified meat production.
