Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit

 

Prof. Caroline Humphrey and Dr Sayana Namsaraeva recently visited the Shanghai International Studies University and its Eurasian Studies Unit.

Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to joint research and scientific co-operation in the field of Inner Asian Studies. During the visit to SISU, Prof. Caroline Humphrey was granted a honorary professorship and contributed two lectures on:

"Territories of Advanced Social and Economic Development in the Russian Far East (TAD) and Prospects for Chinese Investment"  and "The Story of the Jade Trade between Russia and China".

MIASU Research Associate Dr Sayana Namsaraeva also presented two lectures for students of the Eurasian Studies Unit: "Déjà vu of Distrust in the Sino-Russian Borderlands" and "Border Language: Chinese Pidgin Russian with a Mongolian 'Accent'.

It was nice to meet once again friends of MIASU Dr Chen Xiangjun (陈祥军from  School of Ethnology and Sociology South-Central  University for Nationalities (Wuhan) and Prof Naranbilig ( 纳日碧力戈 Institute of Advanced Study in Social Sciences Fudan University), who were  MIASU visiting scholars at various years and came to SISU to greet Prof. Caroline Humphrey on this occasion.
