Healing Heritage and Cultural Change: Inner Asian Shamanism
Elizabeth Turk and Uranchimeg Ujeed (MIASU, University of Cambridge)
This event is part of the Cambridge Festival, facilitated by the research team from the MIASU project ‘Mongolian Cosmopolitical Heritage: tracing divergent healing practices across the Mongolian–Chinese border’, plus two Curatorial Fellows from Mongolia and Inner Mongolia.
This object-facilitated discussion and online event centres on shamanic objects from the Lindgren Collection at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (MAA).
Focusing on a Numanchen shamaness’ outfit, drum and other accessories, while also featuring images and videos of contemporary shamans from Inner Asia, the event will consider the question, what can objects tell us about healing heritage and cultural change?
