Application Guidelines

  • Maximum 5 pages
  • Must be written in English

3. Personal Statement

A strong Personal Statement should be personalised, concise, and compelling, highlighting the applicant’s relevant skills, experiences, and goals, and demonstrating a genuine interest in this research opportunity.

4. Research Proposal

Applicants must submit a detailed research proposal outlining their research goals and methodology for the duration of the grant.

Your research proposal must clearly outline how you will successfully conduct your research at MIASU or in Mongolia and include:

  • Research Justification – Why your topic is important and the benefits of pursuing it.
  • Research Goals – What you hope to achieve during the research period.
  • Research Methodology
  • Literature Review
  • Expected Research Outcomes – What results you anticipate from your study.

5. Writing Sample

All applicants must submit a writing sample on a theme related to Chinggis Khaan, the Mongol Empire, or Mongolian history. This may be an essay, journal article or book chapter written in English of between 1,500 and 10,000 words in length.

6. Recommendation Letters

  • 2 letters
  • Letters may be from:
    • Supervisors
    • Institution heads
    • Senior scholars who can confirm your suitability for the grant

Recommenders should include:

  • The duration of their acquaintance with the applicant.
  • The nature of their relationship with the applicant (academic, professional, etc.).
  • What has most impressed them about the applicant (e.g., publications, research achievements).
  • The applicant’s overall character and work ethic.
  • The applicant’s suitability for the Chinggis Khaan Grant.

7. Copies of University Diplomas(s)

8. Valid Passport

  • The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the research grant’s end date. Example: If your grant ends in June 2026, your passport must be valid until December 2026.
