Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit

We are pleased to announce that Professor Nicola Di Cosmo (Institute for Advanced Study) has been chosen to be the 2026 recipient of the Onon Prize by the Mongolia & Inner Asia Studies Unit (MIASU) Steering Committee members in recognition of his contribution to Inner Asian Studies.

The Onon Prize was established in recognition of Professor Urgunge Onon’s contribution to the foundation of the Unit. It is intended to honour those who have made a substantial contribution to scholarship on the Mongolian & Inner Asian region.

This is the sixth time that the Onon Prize is being awarded – previous recipients were Professor Emerita Roberte Hamayon, Professor Charles Ramble, Professor Christopher Atwood, Professor Manduhai Buyandelger and Professor Yuki Konagaya.

The MIASU looks forward to welcoming Professor Di Cosmo to Cambridge to give a special Onon Prize Series lecture at the forthcoming Cambridge Mongolia Forum (Marking the 40th Anniversary of MIASU) in September 2026.
