The Unexpected in the ‘Land In-between’ (Limi, Western Nepal): Anticipation and Contingency in a Changing Climate
The project "Himalayan connections: melting glaciers, sacred landscapes and mobile technologies in a Changing Climate" focuses on climate change-related hazards that are occurring at the same historical moment that motorable roads and telephone connections, as well as new governance modes, are arriving in Buddhist societies in Nepal and Bhutan. Setting out from the latest fieldwork experience, this presentation explores the role of the 'unexpected' in Limi (North-West Nepal) where challenges and opportunities have been manifesting in entirely unpredictable ways.
